Mayan 2012 Predictions
Mayanists recognize 2012 as the year in which a cosmic activity will affect our planet and state that Mayans knew it.
Their core belief is that the ancient Maya understood aspects of human experience and human consciousness beyond what is generally understood in modern Western culture.
Mayan 2012 Prediction | Galactic Alignment 2012
Mayanism - collection of beliefs, influenced in part by Pre-Columbian Maya mythology and some folk beliefs of the modern Maya.
Mayanism gives preference to knowledge and views gained through revelation and prophesy. Mayanism literature often features beliefs and theories in place of physical evidence.
It shouldn't be confused with Mayanist scholars who research the historical Maya civilization relying strictly on scientific methods.
To differentiate both groups, sometimes prophesy- and mythology-inspired ones are referred to as “New Age Mayanists” - that's because many their views are similar to those of New Age thinkers and believers.
However, not all Mayanists want to be associated with the New Age movement.
- Galactic Alignment 2012: What will happen?
In 2012 it's supposed to occur a cosmic alignment of our Solar System with the plane of our Galaxy, the Milky Way.
It's believed to be the end of a 25,772 year cycle based on the Precession of the Equinoxes.
Ending of the current baktun cycle of the Mayan Calendar in 2012 will create a unique opportunity for humans, eventually causing a global consciousness shift - also known as Transformation 2012.
This is also the reason why many today postulate spiritual awakening. According to New Agers it can be attained through personal development, but not in the typical Western, materialistic and ego-centric sense - completion of this process is known as 2012 Ascension.
John Major Jenkins (born 1964) - an American author and independent researcher of the Mayan civilization, its beliefs and calendar systems. Development of Mayanism and popularization of the 2012 theme in contemporary culture is in great part attributed to him.
Jenkins is one of the most famous promoters of 2012 Galactic Alignment theory, although he understands it rather as a process occuring within longer “2012 Era” - a period of time between the years 1980 and 2016.
Also, popularization of the belief, that Mayan civilization knew of the Precession of the Equinoxes phenomenon, is attributed to J.M.Jenkins' works.
According to New Age believers, on Winter Solstice December 21 2012 Sun aligns with Galactic Centre (Hunab Ku to the Maya) - it is thought to be the opening of the Golden Gate: the point of alpha and omega.
Moreover, also speaking in astrological terms, on December 21st 2012 Pluto with its moon Charon will be at the center of the Dark Rift in the Saggitarius constellation of the Milky Way.
Terence McKenna (November 16, 1946 - April 3, 2000) - an Irish-American author, researcher, philosopher, psychonaut and lecturer. His interests ranged from the evolution of civilizations, biology, alchemy to the questions of the origin of the universe. He was well-known promoter of the use of hallucinogens, to the research of which he devoted a significant part of his life.
After independently studying the “I Ching” (ancient Chinese text used for divination, also called the Book of Changes) he developed the numerological novelty theory suggesting a point of singularity, in which humankind will go through a great shift in consciousness. Subsequently he proposed, that this point of singularity will converge on December 21, 2012.
Both Mayanists and New Age thinkers claim, that during this time people on Earth will undergo a spiritual transformation - some state that physical too.
It is believed to be the beginning of a new era of humanity, coinciding with the dawn of the - so called - Golden Age.
Daniel Pinchbeck (born June 15, 1966) is an American New Age author. Mayan and Hopi prophecies were among his interests, as much as psychedelics. He generally shares Terence McKenna's view, that humanity is experiencing an accelerated process of global consciousness transformation.
Because of his frequent references to 2012 and Mayan calendar in the context of New Age beliefs, he is recognized as an author, who has significantly contributed to Mayanism.
One of the hypotheses suggest it will be the return of Quetzalcoatl* that is depicted in the shadow-play on the pyramid at the ancient Mayan city Chichen Itza (see Daniel Pinchbeck's 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl).
Quetzalcoatl - Aztec god of light (known as Kukulcan to the Maya), depicted often as a feather serpent.
Feathers represent the ascension of human consciousness back to its origins and serpent represents human DNA or physical reality.
- Galactic Alignment 2012: Effects
There's a belief that our Solar System will encounter enormous amounts of mysterious energy emitted from the center of our galaxy (which is often described as photonic energy along with increased gamma radiation) - a phenomenon yet unknown to our modern civilization, which would cause significant changes in the Solar System and the transformation of life on Earth, but would also change some established constants in physics (like measurable gravitational forces of planets and decay times of radioactive elements), rendering some of our current technology unusable, or at least working erroneously.
Some 2012 Mayan prophecy believers - those that are more inclined toward Doomsday 2012 scenario possibility - say there will be the three days of darkness, due to some other event - probably related to the 2012 galactic alignment, Planet X passage and/or increased Sun's activity.
According to some galactic alignment theory proponents, this time Earth will be positioned between the Sun and galactic center, which alignment will have disastrous consequences for our planet. One of the outcomes of such rare alignment could be 2012 polar shift, immediately preceded by the Earth's rotation slowing down to a complete stoppage. Then, just like in Patrick Geryl's “The Orion Prophecy” (see 2012 Doomsday Prophecy), the Earth would resume its rotation in the opposite direction. After the rotation restart, from our point of view, the Sun would rise from the West.
Quite a few scientists would tell you, that the red giant star Betelgeuse in the Orion constellation might soon turn into supernova, since it's recognized as being at the end of its life cycle.
There is a relatively popular belief, that it may happen in 2012.
Despite being 600 light years of distance from the Earth, this star is also 20 times bigger than our Sun, so that after its eventual transformation it could act as a significant source of light.
On the other hand, note that if we were to see it explode, that would mean it has already happened 600 years ago.
“Second sun” or the “double sun” hypothesis is also often related to alleged Planet X return in 2012 / Nibiru 2012 passage, as is expected to happen by many Zecharia Sitchin's followers.
Within this theory the second sun would be either the Planet X itself visible at close distance or one of our well-known planets of the Solar System; for example, Mercury or Venus lighted and even burned up by the increased Sun's activity and cataclysmic CME release caused by interaction with huge Nibiru (which is believed to be a brown dwarf exerting great electromagnetic forces upon its surroundings, thus being able to disturb even the Sun), or Jupiter heated by Planet's X nearby passing to the point of ignition of its atmosphere (which is chemically very similar to our Sun's composition, as it consists mainly of hydrogen and helium, but also contains methane, ammonia and hydrogen sulfide).
Some of the changes which are supposed to happen in, or after 2012, according to Mayanists and Transformation 2012 theory supporters:
- massive earthquakes and volcanic activity due to planetary alignments and increased solar activity
- emergence of a second sun
- cessation of linear time
- changes in human DNA / genetic mutations
- consciousness shift / leap in consciousness
- the end of money
- multiple technological breakthroughs
